US Elite Forces Unite: War is Coming. Where Will They Strike?
As Operation Epic Fury enters its fourth week, the US military is showing its hand.
The Forces are Moving:
- From the Sea: 4,500 Marines (from the 31st MEU and the USS Tripoli group) will arrive at the Persian Gulf by March 26. They are bringing M1A2 tanks, armored vehicles, and F-35B stealth jets that can land anywhere.
- From the Sky: 2,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division are flying directly from North Carolina. They will land in Qatar or Bahrain within 24 hours.
These two elite groups are joining forces. We don't know if they will attack immediately, but if they do, where will they go?
Target: Kharg Island?
In war, you can attack a military unit, or you can attack a country's bank account. Taking out the money is often a faster way to win.
With 7,000 elite ground troops, a full invasion of Iran is not possible. However, a "Surgical Strike" to cut the throat of their economy is very likely.
The Best Target: Kharg Island.
This island handles 90% of Iran’s oil exports. Every day, 1.6 million barrels of oil leave this port. At today’s prices, that is $160 million in daily income for Iran. If the US controls this island, they control Iran’s lifeblood. Without this money, the government could collapse.
This 7,000-man group is a "Fast Strike Force." A battle here would be quick and intense. Whether the war stops there or gets bigger depends on what happens in meetings after the fight.
Inside Kharg Island: What is There?
Kharg Island is a small piece of land (7.7 square miles) about 16 miles off the coast of Iran. It has its own fresh water and many underwater pipes connecting it to nearby oil fields. It is the "throat" of Iran's oil economy.
The Main US Targets:
- The Docks (T-Jetty & Sea Island): Where the world’s biggest oil tankers park.
- Storage Tanks: Huge tanks holding millions of barrels of oil. During an attack, these could explode easily.
- The Airfield: A runway used to move people and military supplies quickly.
The Defense: What Will the US Face?
Iran has turned the island into a fortress:
- Air Defense: Russian S-300 missiles and local systems designed to shoot down US jets.
- The "Wolf Pack": Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) fast boats armed with missiles meant to sink ships.
- Coast Guns: Missiles hidden on the mainland (Bushehr) that can fire at the sea around the island.
- Underwater Barriers: Sea mines and divers meant to stop US Navy SEALs.
The Current View from Space
Using special satellites (SAR), we can see what is happening right now:
- Military Bases are "Cleared": Images show that air defenses and boat bases were hit hard between March 13 and 15. There are black craters everywhere. The resistance might be weak.
- Oil Areas are Safe: The docks and storage tanks have not been hit yet. This shows the US is currently "hitting the teeth (military)" but "saving the heart (energy)."
- Oil is Still Moving: About 10 giant tankers are still waiting near the island. Iran is trying to sell as much oil as possible before the next attack.
The Big Question: Will the US destroy the oil facilities or occupy them? The answer will change the price of gas for everyone in the world.
