Has the Rapid Growth Ended? China’s EV Sales Are Dropping
In February 2026, China sold 686,000 new energy vehicles (EVs). That sounds like a big number, and it is—it’s nearly 80% higher than the same time last year. However, there is a catch: sales actually dropped by 7.8% compared to last month.

To be fair, February was the Chinese New Year holiday. Usually, people are busy celebrating, not buying cars, so sales always slow down during this time.
But there is one number that really worried the market: BYD. As the biggest EV maker, BYD only sold about 190,000 cars in February. That is a 35.8% drop compared to last year. That’s a big deal.

We can’t say for sure yet if the "EV fever" in China is cooling down. But one thing is certain: if the market at home stops growing, these companies will push even harder to sell their cars in other countries. We will likely see many more Chinese EVs on roads around the world very soon.
And don't forget—with oil prices going up, more people might start thinking that switching to an electric car is a pretty smart move.
